There is no single perfect age for every child. Many Zirakpur schools place children around 2–3 years in playgroup or pre-nursery, 3–4 years in nursery and 4–5 years in the preparatory level. A good preschool should provide a safe, engaging environment where children learn through play, conversation, movement and discovery rather than relying mainly on worksheets and memorisation.

Most schools ask for the child’s birth certificate, recent photographs and proof of residence. Some may also request the child’s Aadhaar card, immunisation record, parents’ photographs and identity proofs. A transfer certificate or previous report card is generally relevant only when the child has already attended another school. Requirements vary, so parents should request a written admission checklist before submitting the form or paying any registration fee.

Neither method is automatically better for every child. Montessori usually offers structured, hands-on activities that children complete with growing independence. Playway learning uses stories, games, music, movement and group activities more freely. Parents should focus on how well the school applies its method, not only on the label. For young children, the most suitable programme is one that encourages curiosity, communication, social confidence and age-appropriate learning without unnecessary pressure. The national foundational-stage framework also places strong emphasis on play-based learning.

During the school visit, check how children enter and leave the premises, who is authorised to pick them up and how visitors are recorded. Ask about CCTV coverage, fire-safety equipment, emergency drills, first-aid arrangements, washroom supervision and staff verification. Parents should also understand what happens if a child becomes unwell or gets injured. Do not rely only on verbal promises—request a clear explanation of the school’s daily safety and child-handover process.

Preschool fees may include tuition, admission or registration charges, activity costs, learning materials, annual charges and sometimes uniforms or meal services. Daycare, transport and extended hours are often charged separately. Before taking admission, ask for a written fee structure showing one-time, monthly, quarterly and optional costs. Also check the refund, late-payment and withdrawal policies. Comparing only the monthly tuition fee can be misleading because two schools may include very different services in their total charges.

Preschool mainly focuses on structured early learning for a fixed number of hours. Activities may include language development, early number concepts, art, storytelling, music, physical movement and social interaction. Daycare primarily provides supervised care for a longer part of the day, often including meals, rest and free play. Some centres in Zirakpur offer both services, but parents should ask whether the daycare hours follow a planned routine or mainly provide basic supervision.

For a young child, a nearby school is usually more practical than a long daily journey. Find out how the school handles crying, toilet needs, meals, illness, injuries and difficult behaviour. Ask how parents receive progress updates and whether they can discuss concerns directly with the class teacher. Also check whether activities are genuinely conducted or only displayed in photographs. A useful school visit should give clear, practical answers rather than only a tour of the building.
